Volunteer Census Opportunity: March to the Mailbox Campaign

9 04 2010
MARCH TO THE MAILBOX (M2M) CAMPAIGN THIS SATURDAY

Hello CLPers, ACLF Volunteers and Supporters,

ACLF is collaborating with the Census Bureau to hit some of the hard-to-count communities with outreach this Saturday from 9:30am-1pm -ish. With Seattle only at 60% participation rate, we have to make sure we can get our communities to close the deal!

Feel free to join Linh and Cherry for all of it or just an hour or two. We’ll eventually end up at the Starbucks on Dexter and 23rd passing out census t-shirts and caps!

We’ll be meeting at 23rd and Jackson Starbucks to get the materials at 9:30am. If you are interested, please let us know because we need to make sure you get the right size t-shirt and maybe we can carpool.

Just contact Linh if you are interested.

Best,
Linh

Census Day! Join the Challenge and What You Need to Know

1 04 2010
Happy Census Day! If you don’t get to mail in the form today, remember you still can turn it in until April 15th before census workers come knocking on your door. So keep mailing those forms!

In the spirit of good fun, there is an unofficial challenge between Seattle and Tacoma on who would have the highest mail back response rate.  As of 3/31/10 we are tied at 50%.

Stealing a line from the challengers’ (census workers in Tacoma) email, “Please tell everyone you know – colleagues, co-workers and clients – about the challenge and ask for their help to put a whooping on Tacoma by filling out their Census form and mailing it back as soon as possible.”

There have been many inquiries about what to do if clients, friends, family or yourself have thrown the census form away or never received it in the first place.

Here are a few things you can advise people to do to make sure they are counted in the 2010 Census.

1. Wait until early April to see if you receive a replacement form.  Not everyone will, but if you are in a neighborhood that had a low mail-back rate in 2000, you might.

2. Pick up a Be Counted form, a slightly modified questionnaire that will ask for your address (since there’s no bar code to tie the form to your home).  Go to www.2010census.gov, click on Be Counted sites in the “Need Help with Your Form?” box and enter your ZIP code to find locations near you.

3. After April 11, you can give your responses over the phone without providing the unique code on the lost form.  Cal toll-free tol 1-866-872-6868 for help in English or the following numbers for help in other languages.
